Music Artist Case Study: PVRIS

PVRIS

PVRIS is a recently formed band that now records pop/electro-pop music. They were formed in 2012 containing 5 members with the name Operation Guillotine.Originally they were a metalcore band but this soon changed to a similar form of pop that they now perform. Their first single was "The Heartless" in 2012 and their next release was a self-titled EP in March 2013 it was also during this time that they changed their name to Paris. This EP was described as being post-hardcore due to the band still transitioning from their previous metalcore technique. Shortly after this release they were officially sponsored by Stheart Clothing on April 11th. Their next major performance was during the summer of this year where they played on Ernie Ball's Battle of the Bands stage at Warped Tour (the largest travelling music festival in the US) after winning a contest during their performance the Huffington Post released a second article listing the band as one of '18 Artists You Need To Know Halfway Through 2014". On July 17th the band signed up to the recording studio Tragic Hero. It was also during this time that they officially changed their name from Paris to PVRIS, due to legal reasons, on July 26th. The band also on The Rise Up Tour supporting a post-hardcore band named A Skylit Drive in September and October. Shortly after this tour their drummer 'Brad Griffin' left the group and they continued as a trio. In December they began recording an additional EP with 4 other artists which was released April 1st 2014. Coinciding with the release of their Acoustic EP PVRIS joined 'A Loss For Words', 'Veara', 'City Lights', and 'Moms' on the 5th anniversary of 'The Kids Can't Lose' Tour from March 29th 2014 to April 13th 2014. Throughout the rest of 2014 the band continued to create and release more of their own music and released their first electro-pop album. This was also the year during which they released their first music video. On June 11th 2015 PVRIS won The Relentless Karrange! Awards for Best International Newcomer. They have also announced they will be a supporting act on the Bring Me the Horizon's European tour in November.

As far as clothing goes for the band, they appear to be wearing very similar clothing in all of their music videos and their album photos. Their sponsorship by Stheart clothing has allowed them to acquire a trend of their own which has led onto the band creating their own clothing which is available on their website. It is however very clear that their clothing has been heavily influenced by their original sponsors.

As seen in the interview their style has stayed relatively the same through all of their performances, this will again be visible in the music video below. They stick to a relatively dark theme as they explain in the interview which is mainly effected by their interests in film types and tv programs. This is also enforced by the metalcore songs that the band wrote in its early years.
